How to Install Kodi on a Firestick

Installing streaming app Kodi on a Firestick will give you free access to TV shows, movies, live channels, Pay Per View events, and sports events. The most reliable version of the app is Kodi 17.6 Krypton. A newer one, Kodi 18 Leia, is currently in the works.

In and of itself, Kodi doesn’t offer the full array of services. Third-party apps are needed for unlimited access to the movies, shows, and sports events of your choice.

That said, enjoy our brief tutorial on how to install Kodi on a Firestick!

Settings

Click on the “Settings” tab on Firestick, “Device”, and “Developer options” in that order. From here, go to “Apps from Unknown Sources”, and “Turn on”. Now, go back to Firestick’s home screen, click on the search icon and type in “Downloader”. This will pull up the Downloader icon. On the remote, click the “Select” button to start downloading, then click on “Open”. You will get the prompt “Allow” unless your Firestick model is older. Press Allow, OK on the welcome window for the quick start guide, then “Select” to open the keyboard.

Depending on which version you want to install, there are two URL options – http://troypoint.com/k17 or http://troypoint.com/kodistable for the Kodi 17.6 Krypton, stable version, or http://troypoint.com/k18 for the Kodi 18 Leia Development Release. We recommend the former, as already noted, particularly if you plan on using the Troypoint Supercharge Guide.

Download

Kodi will begin downloading onto your Firestick now. On the Kodi setup page, click “Install”. It will start installing. When it’s finished, click “Open” to launch it. The Kodi home screen will appear. Exit Kodi to go back to the Firestick home screen, and press “Delete” to delete the installation file. Press it twice; the second time is to reply to a confirmation prompt.

Last Steps

Go to the Firestick home screen and press “Home”. Hold “Home” down until the option “Apps” appears. When it does, click on it and highlight “Kodi”. After that, move Kodi to the top of the app list.

If you want to change the location of the Kodi shortcut, use the remote to move it to another spot. Then click on the “Select” button on the remote so that it stays there.

Conclusion

That’s all you need to do to install and run Kodi on your Firestick. If you have Fire TV, the app should be under Games and Apps. Happy viewing!
